I have always been interested in a form of meditation called Transcendental Meditation (TM). Many celebrities from Oprah to Ellen have praised its benefits. The high cost and inability to access TM style meditation made it seem elitist, so I was always turned off, but intrigued at the same time.
At some point, I came across Vedic meditation, which is referred to as meditation for the everyday busy person. That sounded like a good fit for me! It seems like there were other people who also wanted to make TM more accessible to the average person. This is how Vedic mediation came about.
The key to this style for me is having a word you use during meditation. This keyword gives a busy mind something to focus on and for me that was key. Using the breath was not grounding enough for me. It was too easy for me to get distracted. This style of meditation along with the knowledge that we are not trying to quiet the brain, has been a game changer for me. I now look forward to my practice. The practice is almost effortless. I no longer feel like my mind is running in circles when I sit quietly (most days at least)! I would love to hear about your meditation practice and what has worked for you.
I took an online class called ZivaMind with Emily Fletcher. She does an amazing job of explaining meditation and how to make it work if you’re a human living a busy life.

Here’s one review of our book:
“Drs. Jacobs are a wealth of knowledge and this book is just a compilation of all of the helpful and eye-opening things they share with their patients all the time. I have learned so much from them and this book. The book takes you through a purposeful and systematic approach to help you find your best lifestyle and identify what works for YOU as an individual. There are meal suggestions and recipes as well as easily printable guidelines for shopping. They highlight each nutritional group (fats, carbs, proteins + supplements) and give you succinct guidelines for purchasing and consuming each, with usually a few short key take aways, such as: you really should only use organic peanut butter or how to find a supplement you can trust. They also share which foods are ok to buy conventional while others really should be organic. They talk about the newest information around nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle in ways your MD very well may not be informed. I highly recommend this book as not only your primer and beginning guide to changing your lifestyle, but as a reference manual for continuing your new lifestyle.” ~ C. Singh
