Are the foods you eat making you sick?

Simply because a food is considered “healthy” does not mean it is working for you and your body. Each person is unique and will react to foods differently from the next person. Food sensitivities are a great example! A food sensitivity is a low level reaction to certain foods that creates a wide range of various symptoms, fatigue, joint pain, muscle pain, weight gain, digestive issue, skin problems, anxiety, depression, insomnia…the list goes on.

What is more fascinating is these food reactions can occur up to 48 hours after the ingestion of the food. This really throws people off when they are trying to pinpoint what they might be reacting to.

Common food sensitivities include wheat/gluten, dairy, corn, soy, egg, sugar, peanuts, citrus and the nightshade family of foods (eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers). These foods are not inherently bad for us, however, modern farming practices, processing and high exposure have allowed these foods to become overly abundant in our culture. When the body does not agree with a food it is being exposed to, it will begin to mount a response.

Over time, each person will respond differently to the food exposure, which is why the symptoms of food sensitivities are so vast and vary from one person to the next.

How do we find our food sensitivities?

1. The gold standard is the hypoallergenic elimination/ challenge diet.
(this is the basis for the nutrition component of my 21 Day Cleanse)

2. Food sensitivity testing- there are a few different options here, you can contact me for more information

Whether you are dealing with a chronic health complaint or looking for optimal health, finding out if you have food sensitivities is something everyone needs to address.
